Product Overview

ANDRITZ Semi-Open Impeller is a hybrid impeller design featuring vanes attached to a back shroud, with a partial front shroud covering only the hub region rather than the full vane tip width. This configuration occupies a middle ground between the fully open impeller (no front shroud) and the fully closed impeller (full front shroud over the entire vane profile).

The semi-open design provides a combination of attributes that make it particularly suitable for ANDRITZ pumps handling fluids with moderate solids content:

  • The partial front shroud improves hydraulic efficiency over a fully open design by reducing tip recirculation losses
  • The exposed vane tips at the OD retain solids passage capability that would be restricted by a full front shroud
  • The back shroud provides mechanical strength to the vane structure, reducing vibration and fatigue failure risk under variable flow conditions
  • Limited axial adjustment is still possible (though less effective than a fully open impeller), as the partial shroud restricts axial repositioning range

Our ANDRITZ semi-open impellers are reverse-engineered from original parts using FARO 3D scanning, with the partial shroud profile, vane angles, and bore dimensions verified on CMM before dispatch.
