SULZER Oil Sight Glass & Oil Cup Assembly is a bearing-housing-mounted visual indicator that allows operators and maintenance personnel to verify the oil level in the bearing housing without opening the pump. It typically consists of a transparent sight glass (borosilicate glass tube or acrylic prism), a metal or polymer body that threads into the bearing housing wall, sealing O-rings or gaskets, and a protective cage or shroud in some configurations. Some designs include a spring-loaded oil cup that maintains a constant oil level by allowing excess oil to return to the housing while keeping the sight glass filled at the correct level.
The oil cup may also serve as a filling port for adding oil to the bearing housing without disassembly. In pumps operating in outdoor or washdown environments, the sight glass allows quick visual confirmation that the oil level is correct before start-up and during routine inspection rounds.
