What Wear Rings Do
The wear ring sets the running clearance between the rotating impeller and the stationary casing. Its job is to limit the amount of discharged fluid that recirculates back to the suction.

What Lantern Rings Do
In pumps with packed stuffing boxes, the lantern ring sits within the packing and distributes flush or seal fluid around the shaft. It helps keep solids out and lubrication in, which can extend the life of the packing and the shaft sleeve.
